The Juice Uncle

There is a Juice Uncle across the road dividing  a  once beautiful, now overgrown with Water Hyacinth, waste dumped shrinking lake.(The Lake is surrounded by boulders, hidden temples and some amazing secret places. We could make a beautiful public space out of it, but we didnot). We would go to this small shop run by an elderly couple for a ride and some fresh juice. It started with us being health fanatics and Discovering this place's delicious fruit salad with honey topping. And  more than an year later, even during our temporary Gym phase, we went here a lot.

But recently, I found the above sheets of information about Benefits of Fruits lying on the desk where customers wait. I am a fan of creative marketing and engagement. I Had to appreciate this Man's idea and effort that made going to the shop that day, quite interesting, not just for the sheets' sake.
I ask- "Wow, who made these? "
I expected a customer might have presented him with the idea and the sheets too.(I realize now I was Underestimating the knowledge, skills , and creativity of a nearly 50 year old man running a Juice shop)
But he answered saying "My Daughter -in-Law"
I was impressed and surprised, for I imagined a person like 'that' in a shop like 'this' might have anything but a family that uses internet and makes posters to display at the shop.In English.
"She is in the USA" he continued, "So is my son".
I was beyond surprised, and a little guilty for assuming, despite my constant efforts to look at things objectively.
Juice Uncle said, "He earns 12000$ "
I did some calculations in my head, and still underestimating, asked if it was his annual income. I didn't think 1,44,000$  per year was possible, given the college education that the economic class that they belong to can afford here, unless he scored extremely well in the regional entrance test, a possibility I did not consider. And since many people just go, for the sake of going, and with other goals, not necessarily a good college, or a salary starting at 1,44,000 $.p.a.
He told me, "No, per month".
"He  studied at IIT Guwahati. and has a PhD in Solar energy from the states."
"Wow".
On being asked where he worked, JU replied: "He works at those big companies only" . The software ones?" "Does he work in the solar industry? "His wife intervenes" He tells us about his work, we don't understand but it's something of that sort-" She meant Software ones.

"He wants to come back.He is not satisfied with his work.He wants to come back and start up something of his own with solar energy". The wife says "We ask him to stay a little longer, make some more money. He is only 30."
I just nod.
"We were farmers near Guntur. We had buffaloes and all. We sold everything to move to the city for his education. We tried a couple of things and the Juice shop worked."
I smile and say it's so wonderful what his son has done and plans to do, and spent the next couple of months wanting to write this piece and get some pictures of the shop.

'Believing' that  every person is capable of being extra ordinary, and 'acting' like he is, are two different things. Incidents like this, and a few others constantly remind me how I (we) underestimate the potential of a person judging by age, class or education (Like I assumed the old man wasn't creative enough, well , maybe he is) and set lower expectations for them. Sometimes we mean good, we don't want to hurt or embarrass them. But I see now, in doing so, we are already insulting their calibre and not giving opportunities to compete/ be known as good.
September 3 2015- Update:
It occurs to me that it happens a lot in schools and at work too - " "

It often fascinates me how a seemingly insignificant question  can unearth wonderful stories.
